Excellent DVD for my Taste - i had to live with a Dutch Fullscreen Copy, with big Dutch subs and English Language Track after all. not to mention my German Fullscreen Version, which wa missing a mere 36 mins, which is most of the Fight Scenes cut to shreds, too. so is the DVD perfect? no. first of all - it has some rather obvious cuts in the violence Scenes,BUT the English-Dubbed Export Version released in Holland is the same cut. Sadly Celestial has not restored the Movie from some Vault Material, but a censored Cinema Print. After all,I am not too sad about it. First, this is a Shaolin Martial Arts Movie, not a Splatter Movie. Second, from the Cuts at hand, there is only some blood-spitting missing at the most, which can be seen in maybe one or two other Kung Fu Movies. Third,i never saw a longer Version anywhere - so it is the Version intended by SB From the 70s onwards and we shall live with it. Well, another Thing IVL is most famous for are the horrible 5.1 Remixes. Here is one of the Wrap-Ups which is perfectly workable even for myself. as the Center Channel has all the Original Mono Soundtrack,i can switch the other channels of if they intrude my ears. But they don't even annoy me very much in this Movie! Added Thunder to a Stormy Night Scene is well done, for example. all in all, best Recommendation.Of course I am too biased, looking at my old VHS copy, not like people who have never seen this movie before (or better, had to endure it in Fullscreen!) |
